Why Nigeria must abolish capital punishment

The gruesome yesterday cannot rot out of memory as enemy sharpen their shylock-like knives with hate and cursing the righteous to hide his face. When Macbeth murdered death, did he sleep again? Every murdered will never sleep but will wander sleepless for death to stop by.

When men choose to take other men's lives, the law has no option but to demand theirs; thus perfecting the ancient law of eye for eye, tooth for tooth, life for life. That in simple terms concludes the most common and simplest meaning of capital punishment. According to the Osborn's Concise Law Dictionary, capital punishment as defined in capital offenses are punishment meted out on "offenses punishable by sentence of death". This has been the practice globally until some countries of the world repealed it by the Murder (Abolition of Death Penalty) Act 196t which substitute for the death penalty a sentence of life imprisonment.

However, in Nigeria, capital punishment still prevails, but is it as painful as intended? Many have observed that death itself is a pleasurable journey, that none never seeks to return. In the light of this, why must we send murderers thru this pleasurable eternal experience independent of religious views and opinion of life beyond the physical.

The answer is simple, LIFE IMPRISONMENT. The fear of living in a solitary confinement throughout the duration of one's life will be as painful as a sentence of Death itself.

Living in regrets, shame, hard Labour and remorse is the surest way forward that none would dream of.

Capital punishments are outdated and the need to replace it has increasingly become urgent. There is absolutely no need of denying an innocent child a chance to know his father nor a husband to see his wife remarry; the thought of knowing he will no longer be with his wife and another man is making love to her would kill him slowly and painfully.

The world has changed and we as important as it is must change with it. Capital punishment is no longer the correct answer.
